Title Sequence VS Trailer

During this lesson we explored and analysed the differences between a film trailer and an opening sequence. We bullet pointed what the audience want when watching a film trailer and what the audience want when watching the opening sequence of a film.

What the audience want when watching a film trailer:

  • The parts of the film that look interesting
  • Sense of the plot
  • Grab your attention
  • Who is starring/ who it is made by
  • No give-aways
  • Montage editing (fast paced)
  • Loads of shots
  • Has to persuade viewer to watch the film

What the audience want when watching the opening sequence of a film
  • Has to draw you in but, not too much
  • Information on one of the characters
  • Establish the right kind of mood
  • Has to engage the viewer enough to watch the whole of the film
  • Create atmosphere
  • Familiarize/ establish setting
  • Voice over/ narrator (telling the story)
  • Soundtrack
